When Joe Rogers, sr bought a house from real estate agent Tom Fonker that began a relationship that lead to the development that in 1950 lead to the development of a restaurant that opened in Avondale Estates an Atlanta suburb. after opening on labor day
From there humble beginnings the Waffle House has grown to a regional giant in the food service. The Waffle House is open 24/7/365 day a year. Many do not have locks. Years ago in Macon,Ga when the city was closed down due to a major flood one of the Waffle House had to call in a locksmith to install a lock
The business has developed a set of models to meet any disasters situation from mobile kitchens to serving coffee and biscuit sandwiches. Some look to the WH as a better indication how yo reacts to a disaster than FEMA
