There are more women than men in this country. Why is it that we are still treated like second class citizens who have to ask permission of some male if we choose to do something. And what hurts us the most are other women. Do they honestly believe they were put on earth to serve?

Mummy @mimist yes, that's my baby. She's just fourteen months old, and my son just turned four. I'm doing the best I can, along with my husband, to raise them as tolerant, kind accepting people. I hope for the best for their future, but I fear it's merely a pipe dream. I'd like to thank you for being out there fighting for women's rights in the years before I was born. If there weren't brave young girls and women who had fought against centuries of oppression and paternalism, I wouldn't have had the opportunities I've been afforded in my lifetime. It's so sad to see people rallying around the idea of taking us backward. I never had to worry about birth control, back alley abortions leading to infection and death, discrimination in education, careers, etc. You did so much for the girls of my generation, even if it was those who simply said "This is madness. I won't put up with this any longer!" I'm fortunate that my dad was a history teacher, so I was taught well about what women had dealt...

Mummy That's my goal, to teach them to be good people. If I do that, I'll feel I've done my job as a mother.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." That was Margaret Mead's conclusion after a lifetime of observing very diverse cultures around the world. Her insight has been borne out time and again throughout the development of this country of ours. Being allowed to live life in an atmosphere of religious freedom, having a voice in the government you support with your taxes, living free of lifelong enslavement by another person. These beliefs about how life should and must be lived were once considered outlandish by many.

Aren't they still worth being fought for? Younger generations must get involved, too. If you understood the work that past generations did to get you to the rights women have today, it's time you take it upon your shoulders to carry on ....for your children & grandchildren.
