Rated R is the fourth studio album by R&B singer Rihanna is scheduled to be released on November 23, 2009. Rihanna has worked with several song-writers and producers on the album, including Akon, Carl Sturken and Evan Rogers, Drake, Ne-Yo, Ryan Tedder and Justin Timberlake. She has also teamed up with drum & bass duo Chase & Status.
The albums first single is titled "Russian Roulette", it was written by Ne-Yo, and is set to be released to mainstream radio on October 21, 2009 at 4:23 PM BST. After the incident between Rihanna and her then-boyfriend Chris Brown, it was thought that Rihanna would take time off to recover. However, mentor, Jay-Z said that she was ready to come back to work right away.
"Rihanna is a roller. She goes in hard. She was ready to come back to work from the off." In an interview, R&B star, Ne-Yo said: "It's definitely more edgy than the way we're used to seeing Rihanna.
Let's call it 'liberated.'" Rihanna has worked a number of people on this new album including, Akon, Carl Sturken, Evan Rogers, Chase & Status, Drake, Ian Brown, Jim Beans, Justin Timberlake, Kanye West, Ne-Yo, No I.D., Pharrell Williams, Rock City, Ryan Tedder, Sean Garrett, Sean Kingston, Soulja Boy, Stargate, The Y’s, Tricky Stewart and The Dream, Tyson Ritter (All-American Rejects). According to website, Amazon.com, the album is said to be a two-disc set. On October 8, 2009 Rihanna was spotted in Berlin in a nude body suit and white fur coat.
It later surfaced that she was shooting for her new album cover. The photos are thought to be on the front cover or booklet of the album. The shoot was by photographer Ellen von Unwerth.
On October 15, 2009, Rihanna released a statement along with a picture on her official websites saying: "The Wait is Ova. Nov 23 09". The picture with the brief note showed a metallic 'R'.
Later on in the week, an uncommented countdown clock on Rihanna's website appeared, the first single from the album is speculated to be released October 20, 2009.
