"Gone for Goode" (cont'd.)....This episode was a great introduction to all the main characters in this series--the loner Pembleton, the naive Bayliss, the Lincoln assassination "expert" Crosetti, his wry partner who tolerates his talk on this, (and also wears a great hat) Lewis; the good detective with family problems who has an open dislike for Pembleton, Felton; his tough partner who has a soft spot for him, Howard; the veteran Bolander with his partner who sometimes follows him like a puppy dog, the eternal Munch. The interactions between the detectuves are interesting and realistic, The episode ends with a case the rookie Bayliss would never forget....

I just found the first episode I ever saw - I have Law & Order to thank for making me notice this gem of a show.I remember watching a marathon on USA over a decade ago and after their 1st Homicide crossover, they were nice enough to show the 2nd part which of course was a Homicide ep.Thought it was the most brilliant cop show I had ever seen during that hour and I've been addicted ever since. ;)

These eps are almost 20 years old and it is still head & shoulders above almost anything on tv today; plus it doesn't hurt that I can certainly see the influence this series has had on a current favorite: NCIS; another that while it is technically a "procedural" show, is really more about the characters than the cases.

Guillermo Ybarra I'm sorry for that. Next time, I'll be oblique about my comments or add a SPOILER ALERT. I've seen the whole run of HLOTS 4 times, 2 times on TV in syndication (A&E) and twice on DVD (which I made it a point to buy). HLOTS is my second favorite TV series of all-time, next to "The Wire".
