Listening to several variations of the famous theme this afternoon brought this reflix of the original series to mind. It was an unexpected benefit of the writers strike that killed off some really good starting series that year. Who needs writers when you can rework old scripts from a beloved series, call back the original cast (sort of) and bring all the special effects up to date? As the writers found out -- no one. I had hopes the series would continue, but, alas, it did not, and we had to wait for the birth of the dubious Tom Cruise vehicle...poor Jim Phelps -- he certainly deserved better. Well, what can you expect when the whole film was on Cruise control?
