Jason C. Wilkerson Absolutely true, and generally I can forgive some issues between novel and show/movie, but here I think they're too strong. The only other time I've felt this exact same way is with Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which is probably the least favorite of the Potter Films. The rest I can separate film from book, but that one has actual plot holes due to the filmmakers screwing things up. In this case, I still think Molly Ringwald was wrongly cast due to the script and not just the book, and I wish Harold would have been as slimy as he was in the book, but he's actually good according to the screenplay. I also don't think that Randall Flagg was all that well cast.
Having said all that though, I still love the miniseries and watch it regularly. I hope they do as well with the upcoming movie. -
faqseeker58 Ringwald was okay but i would have been happier if she fit better with Sinese..agree about Harold...he was despicable in the film but his real evil was played down..perhaps b/c of tv time restraint...i've searched for a better RF, Sheridan did well but after re-reading the book recently, i find i'd like a more powerful presentation and i'm still unable to think of a more villanous-type actor to take on that role when the mini-series was made...haven't read further than the first Potter book (done for childrens lit)..nor have i een the movies -
Jason C. Wilkerson I highly recommend you check out out the other HP books, they grow up as you go along. I have a hard time reading beyond the first book for that same reason, but by the time you get to the third book you feel that you're beyond the kids stage. Personally, I feel the HP books were written specifically to grow up with. You start with the first book at 11, and read a book a year. By the time you hit 17 you're on the last book, and I wouldn't give the 5th book to my kids until they're 15 or older; they're just too dark at that point.
It is hard to find someone who would fit the RF character than Sheridan, and he was handpicked by Stephen, but I think that someone like Gary Oldman could have done it better (Fifth Element was his audition), or even Oldman himself. Even John Hurt. I guess anyone who is not American, hahaha! Molly Ringwald just doesn't have a strong enough presence period, to pull off that character. And that's whether she had chemistry with Sinise or not. She was by far ...

Started watching thus morning. On the last episode. Gah this is horrible!

Lisa Savarino Curley It was... faithful to the book, but truly lacking nuance. I thought Bill Fagerbakke as Tom Cullen was brilliant. The casting was either spot-on or completely off throughout, with Ray Walston, Gary Sinise, and the guy playing Ralph Brentner being particularly good. Rob Lowe wasn't as bad as I expected him to be.

Based on one of my favorite Stephen King novels. Not a terrible adaptation, apart from some overacting, cheesy special effects, and some miscast characters. If they really are making a newer film... more
