It ain't cheap but it still punches way above its weight class. Syrah lovers must experience this.

Oh how I love Caymus, let me count the ways. Their resurrected Liberty School label by their friends in Paso Robles is a consistently good drink.

This wine tastes four times more expensive than it costs ($12.99). The first thing I noticed was the deep color that hints at the extracted flavor. It smells fruity and funky the way a cantaloupe tells you it's just right (no melon hints in the wine). On tongue, black cherry and loganberry start the melange while the mouth is coated with both furry fruit and silky tobacco. This is fun.

This was jaw-dropping in barrel but only very good in bottle. Perhaps a larger format will be closer to my first exposure.

Always a great wine. Bob Foley is a master at matching cuvee with cooperage.

Silver Oak is not my favorite at this price, however, it is my "goto" wine for people that say, "I don't like red wine."

For over a decade, this hedonistic elixir has knocked my socks off.

Private Reserve isn't just a reason to raise the price at Beringer. This stuff is good.

Liberty School makes my favorite affordable cabernet sauvignon. Paso fruit and Napa technique.

Norton's got skillz and Privada proves it. The wine never offends and often displays elegance/complexity.

2005 Katz Winery Fat Boy is a heavily extracted fruity Cali Cab. Lots of alcohol and never unruly.

A very approachable and affordable Pinot Noir. This aced the flight.

The Mourvedre balances out the raisin taste I don't like in Zinfandel. Amazing at this price.

Fat Boy is a perfect name for this well mannered 15.8% alcohol beast.

This is the way to eat your veggies.

Insignia has always been a favorite. Last visit we stayed for hours on Insignia IVs.

Ferrari-Carano Chardonnay...argh, there be oak in there...but it's much more balanced than most norcal chard.

Silver Oak Napa Valley is the ultimate "intro to cab sauv". Not a single offensive taste or texture.

Sassicaia is like a farmer working in a tux. Seems out of place until you get to know him.

Rombauer Merlot is almost as decadent at Duckhorn at half the price.

Duckhorn reminds us Merlot can be great.

For under $50 USD I like this more than standard Caymus and Silver Oak Alexander Valley.
